For me there is nothing more important than making sure everyone is in the photo (maybe not ever photos, but definitely always one.

I offer a relaxed family friendly (I've got two little people). approach. high fives, smiles and I have been known to let one or two people take a photo of their parents to let them feel more involved too.

Two shoots, one location based and one at home (when the wee one is tiny and its too cold to go out).
